'SANDY OFFICIALLY UNVEILED and MARGARET'S MBE CELEBRATED

People from past and present who have associated with the Berwickshire Riding for the Disabled, gathered at the riding school for two reasons.  For the group to recognize Margaret Morgan’s being made a member of the British Empire in the Queen’s Birthday honours earlier this year, as well as officially unveiling Sandy, the group’s recently acquired Mechanical horse.

Margaret travelled to Buckingham Palace with her family in October to receive her M.B.E., which was awarded in recognition of her  many years involvement with Riding for the Disabled at local, regional and national levels.

Susan Paterson gave those attending a brief summary of what Margaret had done for the Berwickshire group in particular, before presenting her with a cake and flowers from the Berwickshire Riding for the Disabled members to mark the occasion.

The idea of the group getting a mechanical horse was first discussed by the trustees back in 2014 after Margaret had seen one in operation and recognised the benefits it would give the group.  It was decided that the group would benefit from having a mechanical horse and the task of fundraising seriously got underway, with the main fundraiser being a very successful Auction held in May 2015.  The Group is very grateful to all the businesses, auction  bidders, donors and supporters who have contributed so generously to this project.

With funds in place the Racewood Mechanical horse was duly ordered and is now installed in a purpose built stable within the riding school.

The Mechanical horse gives the group an alternative option and people who may not be able to ride a real horse for any reason can get the feeling of riding on Sandy and all the physical exercise that come from the movements of the horse.

As part of the auction, Mr Sandy Douglas was the successful bidder to name the mechanical hose and chose the name Sandy.  The group were pleased that Mr Douglas was able to come along to cut the ribbon at the entrance to ‘Sandy’s Stable’ as well as cutting the cake to mark the occasion.

Below are some photos taken on the night.
