The aim of Berwickshire Group RDA is to provide a beneficial riding experience to people of all ages and abilities.

The group was formed in 1982 and initially rode outdoors two days a week. The Indoor Riding arena facility at Sunnyside, Reston was finished in 2001 and, after its official opening in 2002 by the Princes Royal, the Riding Groups expanded and Equestrian Vaulting was added in 2003.  The indoor school allows us to ride all year round in relative comfort

The school is equipped with a height-adjustable mounting platform as well as an electronic hoist to aid riders with mounting.  Presently the group rides on four days a week:

Monday 1.30pm – 3pm

Tuesday 1.30pm – 3pm & 7pm – 8.30pm

Wednesday 10am – 11.45am

Thursday 10am – 11.45am

During a lesson, riders and vaulters learn to work in teams and to co-operate with the horses and helpers. Weekly sessions help to increase self-esteem and build confidence

An average year sees about 45 people of all ages and disabilities ride and vault with the Group, helped by 5 horses and 40 volunteers.

The Group encourages clients to work for and sit RDA Tests, complete ASDAN books and folders, take part in musical rides and the National Arts and Crafts Competition, attend the Borders Inter Group Quiz and the Regional Dressage Competition, vaulting competitions and demos. Volunteers attend training days at Group, County, Regional and National level to renew and expand their knowledge.

The Group receives no statutory funding and relies solely on fund raising and donations to maintain the horses, building and equipment. We are very grateful for all support financial or otherwise to help keep the Group operating.

Berwickshire Group RDA is managed by a Committee of 10 trustees who are elected annually at the Group’s  AGM.

Our aim is to provide a beneficial riding experience to people of all ages and abilities.
